The End

Today is my last day in Avignon. I'm taking the train to Paris tonight and then flying home tomorrow morning. I'm very anxious to get home and see everyone, to skateboard with Justin and eat Dad's spaghetti, but I'm also sad to leave. This really has been a wonderful experience. I've grown quite attached to my french family and our adorable little house.

Jean and I said our good-byes to all of our classmates yesterday. I'm so lucky to have been placed with such an amazing group of girls. I've learned so much!

Things I'll miss most about France:

Mme Catherine, PonPon, Russie, and Kiki
Giggling with Jean
Being a train's ride away from any major city in Europe
French bread (particularly the pain au raisin)
The incredible wind force
Speaking french
The efficiency of public transportation
An over-abundance of wildflowers

Last week we had our last adventure: a trip to Calanque - Luminy, where we hiked up and down the cliffs to a secluded beach. These are my Calanque pictures:

Thank you to everyone for sharing these adventures with me, I'm sure there'll be many more a little closer to home.

Spring Break

This is a little late, I got back on Monday, but I've had classes this week and we're all preparing for exams next week. That's my excuse, anyway. Spring break was absolutely amazing! Jean, Theresa, Theresa's cousin, and I went to London, Dublin, and Paris. London was okay, I wasn't overly impressed. It was very gray, dirty, and the weather was quite troublesome. We were there on the day of the huge marathon, though, which was pretty cool. We did all of the touristy things: Madame Tussaud's wax museum, the huge ferris wheel called the London Eye, a million museums, Big Ben, The Palace, The London Tower, the Tower Bridge, and spent far too much time walking. Jean and I were lucky enough to attend a play at Shakespeare's famous Globe Theater also, but I think my favorite memory of London will be the aquarium, a wonderful refuge from the weather. Here's some London pictures:
I was thoroughly amazed by Dublin, though. Ireland is just so pretty, a stark contrast to the gray city of London. The Irish people are so nice, too! Every time we took out our map someone rushed over and asked if we were lost. In Dublin we continued our quest of a million museums, accidentally walked into cathedrals having mass, discovered how Irish whiskey is made, visited Trinity college, and explored what's left of the old Dublin castle. We also took a walking history tour, which turned out to be the best experience ever. Our guide was very, very funny and full of information. We had a small group: Jean, myself, a polish girl, and one british "bloke." Throughout the tour, the guide would talk about how awful the British people were to the Irish and how corrupt all of their politicians were/are and then he would stare accusingly at the poor british guy, who was a good sport and didn't retaliate. Jean and I couldn't help but giggle, especially when he started ranting about the french and called them "cheese eating surrender monkeys." I wish I was making that up, it's the funniest thing I've ever heard. Pictures from Dublin:
Finally we returned to Paris where we climbed the Notre-Dame, went to Versailles to see Marie-Antoinette's castle, explored the parts of the Louvre we didn't get to last time, cooked in our tiny kitchen, and walked until I was sure my feet would commit mutiny and leave. This time around, the weather was beautiful and all of Paris was green and flowery. For such a huge city, they sure love their parks and flowers, again making London look bad haha. Paris part two:
Just in case you haven't seen my facebook yet, where I put up the entirety of the photos I took (truly blogger photo uploader is a pain), the three chicks above were waiting for me when I got back to Avignon! Very, very, cute. Well that's it for now. Two weeks from today I'll be home!!
